JONESBORO (12/14/10) – Arkansas State redshirt freshman defensive tackle Amos Draper has been named to CollegeFootballNews.com's Freshman All-America Team as an honorable mention selection.
Draper is the first A-State player to earn Freshman All-America honors since running back Reggie Arnold and kicker Josh Arauco in 2006.
The Tanner, Ala. native played in every game, including three as a starter. He recorded three sacks that tied the 19th most in the Sun Belt Conference, while also posting 34 tackles that included seven tackles for loss. Draper's 34 tackles were the third most on the team among interior defensive lineman, finishing behind only All-Sun Belt Conference selections Bryan Hall and Dorvus Woods.
Draper was also responsible for two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery that he returned 35 yards in ASU's victory over Middle Tennessee. He tallied multiple tackles in six games, including a career-high seven against Navy, and posted a career-high three tackles for loss against Troy.
Draper was the only defensive player from the Sun Belt Conference named to CollegeFootballNews.com's Freshman All-America Team, while Troy's Corey Robinson and Louisiana-Monroe's Kolton Browning were named honorable mention selections at quarterback.
