University of Memphis quarterback arrested

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - University of Memphis starting quarterback Cannon Smith has been arrested on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Shelby County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chip Washington confirmed Smith - who is 23 - was booked into the county jail after being arrested at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Smith is the son of FedEx founder and CEO Frederick Smith.

WMC-TV reported that Smith refused to pay a taxi fare and became combative.
