BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A registered sex offender is behind bars after he tried to have a friend lie to the police about his residency.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Department, Kenneth Martin tried to get a friend to lie for him and say he was living at a mobile home in the Midway area.

Police say they received a tip from a concerned citizen that Martin was indeed not living at the mobile home and was later questioned and arrested.

Martin admitted to police that he lied, and asked the home owner to lie to the police as well.

Martin is charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration and is being held on a $15,000 bond in the Baxter County Detention Center.

Martin was convicted of rape by force/fear of a 15-year-old in Sacramento, California in 1998.

He's due back in court on January 6th.
