Doug Gabriel supports his alma mater, Linn-Mar High School in Marion, Iowa, with a music scholarship and this year the recipient is Ryne VanHorn.
The scholarship is given annually to a graduating senior at a senior recognition night ceremony, said Gabriel, who presents the Doug Gabriel Show in Branson.
"The Linn-Mar School Foundation is committed to the continued excellence of all the Linn-Mar Schools. Students graduating in the 21st century will face many opportunities and challenges in their lives. We thank you for helping the Linn-Mar graduates through your sponsorship of the Doug Gabriel Music Scholarship," said Sue Wagoner, foundation board president, in a letter to Gabriel. Wagoner represented Gabriel at the ceremony and presented the scholarship to VanHorn.
"I am thankful for the opportunities I've had because of music and education. My desire is that Ryne and other recipients of this scholarship will have many opportunities as well," said Gabriel.
Gabriel has performed his morning show for the past 10 years in Branson and in the process garnered many awards including six time male vocalist of the year, entertainer of the year, instrumentalist of the year and best morning show four years running.
The Doug Gabriel Show is presented at 9:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday at the Legends Family Theater on the world famous 76 strip. Gabriel is joined for selected dates with legendary performer Roy Clark for Doug and Roy - Together Again.
