WHITE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – An off-duty Region 8 police officer is credited with making a drug arrest in White County.

According to the White County Sheriff's Department, Matt Van Winkle was off duty when he noticed Jeremy Loftis riding through Searcy on his bicycle. Van Winkle is a White County Sheriff's Deputy, but was off duty and knew Loftis had warrants for his arrest.

Police say Van Winkle approached Loftis who attempted to flee, but was arrested after a brief struggle. Van Winkle held Loftis until a Searcy Police officer arrived on scene and took Loftis into custody.

When Loftis was being taken into custody, police found more drugs on him. Loftis had his bond set at $15,000 and is due back in court in January.
