PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -  Paragould police say a head-on collision on Highway 49 South near Carriage Hills Tuesday night was caused by a sleeping driver.

According to officers, Eric King of Paragould apparently fell asleep behind the wheel of his 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck.  King, who was traveling north, veered across the turning lane and slammed into a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 20-year-old Virginia Nelms of Brookland.

King's truck overturned and caught fire.  Nelms and two passengers, 19-year-old Julie Johnson and 22-year-old TeWayne Smith of Jonesboro had to be cut from their vehicle.  All four people were taken to a Jonesboro hospital.

According to Paragould Police Officer Brad Snyder the crash is still under investigation.  No charges have been filed.
