Fayetteville (AP) - Rotnei Clarke scored a game-high 22 points to lead short-handed Arkansas to a 67-59 win over Texas Southern on Wednesday.
Clarke scored eight consecutive points during a 14-1 Razorbacks run midway through the second half to give the team the lead for good. Clarke connected on two 3-pointers during the stretch, which gave Arkansas an 11-point lead.
Clarke, a junior, finished 19 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
Texas Southern battled back and pulled within 62-59 on a Kevin Galloway 3-pointer with 2:41 remaining, but never scored again.
Glenn Bryant, who finished with 11 points, added a pair of high-flying dunks in the closing minutes, and Clarke connected on a pair of free throws late to extend the Arkansas lead.
The Razorbacks improved to 8-2, despite preseason all-SEC forward Marshawn Powell playing only one minute and starting guard Rickey Scott missing the game with a foot injury.
Travele Jones scored 15 points to lead the Tigers (2-8).
Arkansas jumped out to a 9-0 lead, but struggled when senior center Delvon Johnson went out midway through the first half with foul trouble. Arkansas led by 10 when Johnson left the game, but found itself behind 35-33 following a Danner Johnson 3-pointer just before the intermission.
There were eight ties and 12 lead changes before Bryant's lay-up with 11:28 remaining gave the Razorbacks a 50-48 lead.
Arkansas scored 23 points off 20 Texas Southern turnovers and outscored the Tigers 14-0 in transition.
