JONESBORO,AR (KAIT) – A man accused of murdering an 83-year-old Craighead County woman pleaded guilty in court Monday.
Accordingto the Craighead County Prosecuting Office, Ronnie Laster pleaded guilty tosecond degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. As a condition ofhis plea, he must serve 100% of the 25 years.
TheCraighead County Sheriff's Department says on December 29, 2010, they foundHelen Johnson dead in her home off Hasbrook Road. Investigators say she died ofmultiple stab wounds.
Aneighbor found Johnson murdered inside her home, after her granddaughter askedhim to check on her. Her granddaughter called her every night around the sametime, and on that night Johnson never answered.
OnSaturday January 8, 2011, Craighead County Sheriff's deputies arrested Laster.Police say he rented a home from Johnson, just two doors down from her home.
