Mizzou Sweeps Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

Teammates Marcus Denmon and Matt Pressey (Missouri) have been chosen as the latest Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of December 27 - January 2 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference. It is the second weekly award this year for Denmon, while Pressey is recognized for the first time.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Marcus Denmon, Missouri, Jr., G, 6-3, 185, Kansas City, Mo./Hogan Prep

Denmon averaged 23.0 points last week as Missouri defeated Northern Illinois (97-61) and Old Dominion (81-58). The junior guard started with a 24-point effort versus NIU, hitting 9-of-11 shots from the floor. He followed with a 22-point output in the victory over Old Dominion, a team ranked in the top 15 nationally of the RPI. Denmon shot 65.3 percent (17-of-26) for the week, including 10-of-15 (.667) from 3-point range. He had seven rebounds, three assists and four steals while totaling 46 points in 54 minutes played. Denmon has led the Tigers in scoring in each of the last four contests, recording 20 points or more three times. He leads MU with 17.6 points per game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Matt Pressey, Missouri, Jr., G, 6-2, 185, Dallas, Texas/Cushing Academy/Navarro CC

Pressey enjoyed the two highest scoring games of his carer, averaging 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in the Tigers' two victories. The junior guard opened with a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting against Northern Illinois. He started his third straight game in the win over ODU and posted 15 points with five rebounds. He combined to make 12-of-18 (.667) shots from the field on the week, while hitting 9-of-12 (.750) from the free throw line. Pressey also totaled 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in 51 minutes. He has shot 50 percent or better from the floor six times this season.
