LITTLE ROCK, Ark. --The burn center at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock has been around for half a century. And in that time, the center's director says, techniques for treating burn victims have made great strides. The center is the only burn-treatment facility in the state.
Director Doctor Ron Robertson says that, when the center opened in 1953, doctors had difficulty saving and treating burn victims.
Since then, medical advances in resuscitating burn victims, preventing wound infections and skin grafting techniques have reduced the number of patient deaths.
The burn center's doctors, nurses and staff joined with burn victims and their families during the weekend in observing the center's 50th anniversary.
