JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Heels are clicking at the East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging on Tuesday. Clogging is a new class bringing in the new year.
Certified clogging instructor, Leona Miller, is teaching the class. Leona says you don't need a dance or clogging background to participate in these classes. "We're going to start with very beginning, basic steps from the bottom up."
The level of the class and the progress made during its duration will be determined by the students attending.
Leona says for those senior citizens who can't get around as well as they used to, you don't need to worry. "We can adjust the clogging steps for those that might have a disability or something they're not able to do. We can go slow. We're just gonna have a good time."
And Leona knows what she's talking about. She's been attending and teaching clogging classes for years. "I've been clogging for over thirty years. I love clogging and now that I'm retired I have time to devote in the day time for those of us who don't have anything else to do all day long."
Leona says the most important thing people get out of this type of class is the exercise.
"Clogging is excellent exercise. We try to make it fun. It's good for the cardiovascular system as well as the muscular system. It helps build up your muscles. It helps build up strength. Of course, the more you put into it the more you're going to get out of it."
This is a ten week class for adults, but it is not limited to seniors. Class times are every Tuesday from 1:30-2:30.
They will be accepting new dancers into the class for the next couple of weeks.
