Two arrested on child abuse charges

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) – Police on one Region 8 city arrest two people accused of abusing two small children.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Donnisha Nelson and Sterling Marshall were arrested and charged with 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree.

Police say they found a 23-month old boy with burns on several parts of his body, and a 3-year-old with a broken jaw in the care of both Nelson and Marshall.

Police say a complaint was filed with the child abuse hotline at a home at 1206 Apple Street in Poplar Bluff. When police arrived, no one answered the door, but police could hear children crying. Police entered the home and found both Nelson and Marshall hiding in the home with the children.

According to the probable cause statement, Marshall is accused of hitting the 3-year-old in the face, and the 23-month-old had second and third degree burns on several parts of his body.
