VIOLA, AR (KAIT) – A man already charged with five Fulton County felonies is now charged with 118 new criminal charges.

The Batesville Daily Guard reports that 49-year-old Rodney Dean Kankey is now charged with five felony counts of aggravated cruelty to a horse and 113 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals. These charges stem from the discovery of 117 neglected horses on Kankey's farm in Viola on Dec. 7.

The horses were discovered after several of the horses escaped from Kankey's farm and roamed the Highway. One horse had died of starvation according to ASPCA Veterinarian Rhonda Windham.

Kankey faces up to six years in prison and is subject to a $10,000 fine for each charge if found guilty of the felony charges; he also faces one year in prison and a $1,000 fine for each misdemeanor charge.
