BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A convicted sex offender is behind bars in Baxter County for failing to properly register.
According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Department, Alexandar Simmons was arrested for failing to properly register as a sex offender after moving to Baxter County from another state.
Police say Simmons tired to register Thursday morning, but had been living in Baxter County since November 24. Arkansas law states that a convicted sex offender who moves here from another state must report to law enforcement within 3 days.
Simmons was convicted of child molestation in the second degree on August 24, 2009 in Greene County, Missouri. The offense involved Simmons engaging in sexual contact with a 12-year-old female.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department says Simmons was suppose to register with them in September of 2010, but never did.
Simmons had his bond set at $15,000 and is in the Baxter County Detention Center.
