LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Mike Ross is calling an Arizona colleague who was shot in the head a "true friend" to all who have served with her.
A gunman wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., and several others as she met with constituents outside a Tucson grocery store on Saturday. At least five people were killed in the rampage.
In a statement, Ross, D-Ark., said Giffords is an exceptional member of Congress, and noted that he and his colleague are members of the fiscally conservative "Blue Dog" Democrats.
Reps. Tim Griffin and Rick Crawford, both R-Ark., also issued statements calling the shooting "tragic" and they offered condolences to Giffords and her family.
