Arkansas State Police issue warning for motorists

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) -- Arkansas State Police have issued a warning to motorists in light of snow falling in the southern part of the state. According to Bill Sadler, Public Information Officer with Arkansas State Police, troopers have been getting calls of sleet and snow over south and southwest Arkansas highways Sunday morning. That same precipitation has been making its way across the state.

According to Sadler, troopers are reporting snow and sleet conditions in the Little Rock metropolitan area. At least 24 crashes have been reported on highways in Pulaski, Saline, Faulkner and Lonoke Counties as of 4:00 Sunday. Police believe the number of crashes will increase into the evening.

State police said the I-40 bridge across the White River became slick during the day and is considered dangerous. Several collisions made travel much slower than normal.

Traffic is moving slowly in other parts of the state, including in Saline and Clark Counties. Some vehicles were reported stalled for several hours.

ASP encourages drivers to avoid getting on the road tonight unless it is an emergency.
