JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Children all throughout the Region 8 viewing area Monday enjoyed a day off from school as several inches of snow dropped Sunday night into Monday morning. As school cancellations piled on, so did the snow. The Jonesboro area got an estimated 2 inches of snow. Children and their parents used the day off to enjoy the slopes of the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

"I'm from upstate New York and I've lived here for 18 years, and I grew up in the snow and I want my kids to grow up in the snow, so we're out here sledding and throwing snowballs and having a good time," said Danielle McLoy, who is a teacher for the Jonesboro School District.

Teachers also enjoyed the snow day as well. People young and old threw snowballs, drove sleds and made homemade snow cream during the day.

"These are just tiny. The ones that I go to are just, whoosh, all trees and everything," said Grant Waleszonia as he prepared to use his snow skis. Waleszonia is an 11-year old boy who has used a sled for several years. Grant didn't think it would snow enough to get him out of school.

"He's just like a doubtful kid. I don't know what's wrong with him," said Grant's younger brother Grayson.

Also in Jonesboro, children made snow angels and snow men in their own yards.
