JONESBORO, Ark. (1/11/11) – Legendary Hall of Fame college baseball coach Ron Polk will be the featured speaker at the 2011 Arkansas State Baseball Grand Slam Celebration which will be held at the ASU Convocation Center on Feb. 14, 2011. Doors open at 5:15 with dinner to be served at 6:30 p.m.
Polk's Hall of Fame career spanned 35-years in which he amassed a 1,373-700-2 (.662) career coaching record with stops at Mississippi State, Georgia and Georgia Southern making eight College World Series Appearances. He also owns five SEC championships and made 23 appearances in the NCAA regional appearances and was named the National Coach of the Year three times.
During his career, Polk coached 35 All-Americans and more than 75 All-SEC performers. Twenty-two of his former players competed in the major leagues including Will Clark, Rafaeal Palmeiro, Jeff Brantley, Bobby Thigpen and Jonathon Papelbon. Polk is an authority on collegiate baseball. His book "Baseball Playbook," is the most widely used textbook for college baseball.
Coach Polk served as the coaching mentor for ASU head coach Tommy Raffo who played for Polk and later served on his coaching staff at Mississippi State.
Polk has been inducted into both the College Baseball and American Baseball Coaches Association Halls of Fame and served as a United States National team coach on seven occasions, including serving as head coach twice.

He has been a big influence in my life and I am excited that he will share his time with the ASU Baseball program and our community."
Since his retirement at Mississippi State, Polk has served as a volunteer assistant coach at Alabama-Birmingham helping the team to some of their best results in recent memory.
In addition to dinner and the program by Polk, fans will feature a "Meet the Players" autograph session featuring the Red Wolves players, and silent and live auctions. There will also be an opportunity for fans to join the Red Wolves Home Run Club.
Tickets for the event are on sale now with individual tickets costing $25 for children (12 and under) and $75 for adults. You can purchase a "Grand Slam" table which will be a table for eight for $500 or a special "Heavy Hitter" package which features a table for eight, a special reception with Coach Polk prior to the event, four ASU baseball season tickets and a party deck reservation for a home game which includes 30 general admission tickets. The Grand Slam Banquet serves as the largest single fundraiser annually for the ASU Baseball program.
