Blytheville has deadly start to the New Year

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The new year has gotten off to a deadly start. Three people have been killed in Blytheville in the last two weeks!

"This happening in such close proximity is somewhat unusual," says Assistant Chief Marvin Crawford with the Blytheville Police Department. He says with three murders in just over two weeks, they have had their hands full. "It does test your ability and your man power," says Crawford.

It started back on December 30th at 2237 Marguerite Street. "There they discovered an individual laying on the side walk. It was later determined that he received a single gunshot wound," says Crawford.

Then, less than a week later, on January 5th police responded to the 600 block of East Rose. "Officers discovered that several shots had been fired at this location where two individuals received guns shot wounds and one individual later died," says Crawford.

The victim was Darron Williams. Friends and family have placed stuff animals and signs where the shooting happened. "My Godmother lives down the street and she was here the night that it happened. It's kind of hard because I love being around here, but I'm kind of nervous being here at night," says citizen Christie Blankenship.

Then eight days later, in the 1200 block of South Clark, Kareem Tride was found dead. Police say he was shot and killed during an argument.

All these murders happening within such a short time span has some citizens on edge. They say something needs to change.

"I don't know what's going on in Blytheville right now," says Blankenship.

"You know I may be on edge, but crime is everywhere. We just got to come together as people and stop the violence," says citizen Floyd Williams.

One man is in police custody. According to U.S. Marshal Bob Clark, Tyrone McGee, Jr. was arrested today in Little Rock. He is suspected in the January 5th murder of Darren Williams. If you have any information regarding any of these murder investigations call the Blytheville Police Department at (870) 763-4411 or the Criminal Investigation Division at (870) 762-0400.
