ASU Bowling 5th after first day of Mid-Winter Classic in Cabot

CABOT, AR (ASU) — The sixth-ranked Arkansas State women's
bowling team (30-11) posted a 4-1 record to open the Mid-Winter
Classic Friday at All Fam Bowling in Cabot, Ark.

"The lanes played really tough today," said ASU head coach Justin
Kostick.  "We made adjustments and had to keep fighting.  We hope to
make the necessary adjustments again tomorrow and finish well before
going into Sunday's bracket."

The Red Wolves started the day with a 3-0 run, topping Valparaiso,
Stephen F. Austin and Jackson State.  ASU edged the Crusaders 881-837
before winning 885-836 over the Lady Jacks.  Arkansas State cruised
past JSU 950-871.

Top-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore handed the Red Wolves their first
and only loss of the day 1031-819 in match four, pushing ASU from
third place to seventh.  A-State bounced back to close the day with a
1043-643 win over Alabama State to land fifth in the field.

Action at the Mid-Winter Classic will resume Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
