PINE BLUFF, Ark. --A flyer promoting the defeat of a half-cent sales tax increase on the ballot in Jefferson County features quotes by and a photo of Governor Huckabee.
But he says he is NOT taking a position on the issue and the use of his photo and quotes are unauthorized. The tax would raise money to build a new jail.
The flyer quotes portions of the Huckabee's inaugural address, when he said (quote) ``jails cannot be built fast enough and jail is not the answer for non-violent offenders, and persons addicted to drugs or alcohol.''
The flyer with the governor's photo does NOT identify who sponsored it. The proposed half-cent tax increase is split into two parts, with a quarter-cent being devoted to issuing bonds to build a new jail, while the other quarter-cent would be used for maintenance and operation.
