CABOT, Ark. (1/16/11) — The sixth-ranked Arkansas State women's
bowling team (35-14) claimed third place with a 3-0 record on the
final day of competition at the Mid-Winter Classic at All Fam Bowling
in Cabot, Ark. Vanderbilt took home the tournament title with Central
Missouri finishing second.
The Red Wolves opened the day with a 4-1 (185-137, 131-164, 192-171,
199-156, 190-189) win over fifth-seeded Alabama A&M. A-State went on
to top Nebraska in seven games (198-236, 212-174, 180-175, 181-217,
158-202, 209-205, 182-178).
ASU clinched its third place finish with a six-game win over
top-seeded Maryland-Eastern Shore (190-228, 178-161, 211-179, 171-223,
"They were big wins today, and we needed that," said ASU head coach
Justin Kostick. "We were fortunate against Nebraska and got a few
keys breaks. We played the best we have all year against UMES which
allowed us to get third in the tournament, and that is the highest
finish ASU has had since starting this tournament."
The bowling Red Wolves will return to action Jan. 20-22 when they
travel to Lincoln, Neb. for the Big Red Invitational hosted by the
University of Nebraska.
