Harding places 13 on GSC Fall All-Academic teams

Harding led all Gulf South Conference schools with 13 members on the conference's Fall All-Academic Teams, released Tuesday by the GSC office. Conference sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives voted for the All-Academic teams.

To qualify for nomination for Academic All-GSC, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, have a 3.20 grade-point average or higher, and must have reached at least sophomore status.

The Harding football team had six members on the Academic All-GSC Team—Josh Aldridge, Jeremy Holt, Adin Menkin, Chaz Rogers, Jason Thomasson and Luke Tribble. Harding cross country honorees included Philip Biwott, Ryan Johnson and Gladys Kimtai. Soccer team members Josh Ireland, Rhon Royer and Brianna Meek made their respective teams, and Lady Bison volleyball player Emily Tate rounded out the honored Harding student-athletes.

It was the second straight season that Harding had a GSC-best six members on the All-Academic team. Holt, Thomasson and Tribble were all unanimous selections. Aldridge played in all 10 games with nine starts at defensive end. He recorded 25 tackles, including 6.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Aldridge is a social science major with a 3.24 GPA.

A native of Jackson, Tenn., Holt started all 10 games at slotback and rushed for 527 yards and three touchdowns. Also Harding's top kickoff and punt returner, he ranked third in the GSC with 120.9 all-purpose yards per game. Holt is a management major with a 3.46 GPA.

Harding's placekicker, Menkin made 6-of-11 field goals and 32-of-34 extra points. He was second on the team in scoring with 50 points. Menkin is a management major with a 3.42 GPA.

Rogers was Harding's second-team quarterback and carried 39 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 12-of-24 passes for 208 yards and two more touchdowns. Rogers is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.61 GPA.

Thomasson, a starting linebacker, was Harding's leading tackler with 76. He earned 2nd Team All-GSC honors and ranked eighth in the conference with 7.6 tackles per game. It was Thomasson's second straight Academic All-GSC honor. He is a management major with a 3.41 GPA.

Tribble also earned his second straight Academic All-GSC honor. He played in all 10 games as a defensive back and recorded 35 tackles and four pass breakups. Tribble is a kinesiology major with a 3.64 GPA.

Biwott was one of Harding's top cross country runners and earned 1st Team All-GSC and All-South Region honors. He placed second at both the GSC and South Region meets. Biwott is a management information systems major with a 3.36 GPA.

A mechanical engineering major with a 3.73 GPA, Johnson earned 2nd Team All-GSC honors with a 14th-place finish at the GSC meet. He placed 41st at the South Region meet.

Kimtai was Harding's lone qualifier for the NCAA National Meet after earning both 1st Team All-GSC and All-South Region honors. She finished third at the GSC meet and fifth at the South Region meet. Kimtai is a biology major with a 3.48 GPA.

Ireland, a midfielder, played in 16 matches with 14 starts for the men's soccer team and had one assist. He has a 3.72 GPA.

A defender, Royer started all 15 games he played in and earned 2nd Team All-GSC honors. He is an interior design major with a 3.80 GPA.

A biochemistry/molecular biology major with a 3.45 GPA, Meek was one of only two women's soccer players to start all 18 games. She scored two goals and added four assists and was third on the team with eight points.

A unanimous selection, Tate earned her second straight Academic All-GSC honor. She was also a 1st Team All-GSC honoree as a libero after ranking third in the GSC with 5.38 digs per set. Tate is a fashion merchandizing major with a 3.64 GPA.

Harding also had 62 members on the GSC Academic Honor Roll. All student-athletes with a 3.00 GPA or higher qualify for this honor.
