The late army specialist Jonathan Cheatham of Camden was remembered yesterday as a hero, and a caring student who loved playing trumpet in the band. Cheatham was killed in an ambush in Baghdad. Army personnel presented Cheatham's mother with her son's purple heart.
His mother, Barbara Porchia (por'-shuh) has a message for politicians. She spoke at her 19-year-old son's funeral yesterday in the gymnasium of the high school he attended, Camden Fairview. Porchia asked why American politicians won't join forces to finish the job in Iraq. She says the lives of American troops aren't something to play politics with.
Standing behind her son's flag-draped coffin, Porchia said a unified front is needed in the American homeland.
