Southern Arkansas Mulerider Cedric Thornton to play in 2011 Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Three Division II players will be competing

at the Senior Bowl.

Slippery Rock offensive lineman Brandon Fusco, Abilene Christian

wide receiver Edmond Gates and Southern Arkansas defensive lineman

Cedric Thornton have all accepted invitations for the showcase week

for senior NFL prospects.

Players report this weekend for next Saturday's game.

Fusco and Thornton are the first players from their schools to

earn a Senior Bowl invitation. Fusco won the Gene Upshaw Division

II Lineman of the Year Award this year and the Division II

Rimington Award as the nation's best center.

Thornton is a defensive tackle who had 52 tackles, 13 tackles

for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Gates is Abilene's first Senior Bowl participant since Johnny

Perkins in 1977. He had 1,182 yards and 13 touchdowns receiving.
