JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A man accused of pulling a gun in a road rage incident and then walking into a school with a gun appeared in court Monday.
According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, John Dustin Rains had his case continued to May 31 with a tentative trial date set for June 11.
Rains is accused of pulling a gun and waving it at another driver in a road rage incident with his kids in the car. Shortly after the incident, he's accused of then taking that gun into a school when he dropped his kids off for a school event.
Jonesboro Police say on January 21, 2011 a call came into the Jonesboro 9-1-1 Center saying a man was driving westbound in the 1800 block of Highland Drive had threatened another driver in a road rage incident. The caller, who is also the victim, told police that the suspect waved a handgun and threatened him.
The witness told police Rains had two children in the car with him at the time and had pulled into the Jonesboro Visual and Performing Arts School after the incident. Police say Rains was attending an event at the school. Police arrived at the school and secured the campus after learning the suspect had taken his children to a classroom inside the school.
Police were able to locate Rains inside and arrested him without incident. During the search, police say they found a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in his pocket.
Rains is being charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a minor, and possession of a firearm on school property. He is out of jail after posting a $2,500 bond and is due back in court on May 31.
