From the Sun Belt Conference
For the second consecutive year, the Sun Belt Conference is inviting all elementary and middle school children from Hot Springs and nearby areas to participate in the "Drive to the Summit."
The Drive to the Summit, sponsored by Benton Family Dentistry, will feature kindergarten through eighth grade children dribbling basketballs through a quarter mile stretch of downtown Hot Springs. The event will be held prior to the first tip-off of the 2011 Sun Belt Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Saturday, March 5.
The Drive to the Summit will begin at Hill Wheatly Plaza with registration opening at 10 a.m. and the festivities starting at 11 a.m. At the start of the event, kids will be asked to participate in basic basketball drills before dribbling their new basketballs down the street to the Hot Springs Convention center.
Registered participants will receive a free Sun Belt Conference prize pack consisting of a t-shirt, basketball, and complimentary tickets to the first session games. Each participating child will receive a ticket for one accompanying parent.
"We had great participation in this event last year and we are hoping to grow the event even more this year," said Sun Belt Conference Associate Commissioner Dr. Kathy Keene. "This is a great way to start the tournament with a family friendly activity and it allows us to invite many people into our tournament at no charge."
Dribblers and parents are encouraged to stay for the games and participate in on-court activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy a number of kid-friendly concourse activates inside of the Hot Springs Convention Center.
