Arkansas library celebrates Black History Month

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library is celebrating Black History Month, as special guests will be reading related books during "story time" on February 1st.

Virtual Library Manager for the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, Alissa Reynolds, says these programs are for everyone. "This is just a way to celebrate Black History Month as well as inform people who might not be as familiar with the month. These events are going to have a lot of history. We'll have a lot of books that are dedicated to that subject and things like that."

Reynolds says these events will be more than just educational. . .they're going to be fun. "These programs are very beneficial for the children and somewhat for the parents. These programs are going to provide them with information. I know in the public schools they do programs and studying on Black History Month, but a lot of these programs make the learning a fun environment. By using story time, they will be reading stories that will be based on black historians or Black History Month or famous people that have been a part of this event. It's just a way to make it more fun and entertaining for the children while actually still learning, too."

Reynolds says they'll be ending the months events with a bang. "We will also be ending the month on February the 28th with a magic show with Tommy Terrific. So, this is another thing that will be happening on the 28th at seven."

Story time will be lead by the men from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at 6:30pm February 1st.

Later, Math and Science School counselor, Deborah Agnew, will be reading. All of these events are free and open to the public.
