POCAHONTAS/HARDY/ASH FLAT, AR (KAIT) – Local hardware stores and grocery stores in parts of Arkansas Tuesday were packed in the morning hours with people stocking up. According to the Price Chopper in Pocahontas, many residents were purchasing bread, milk and canned foods in case of any winter weather. Johnson's Hardware store in Ash Flat was also busy at times, Judy Warden said.

"It's been on and off. People coming in and getting snow shovels, ice melt and stove pipe," said Warden. "They've been out and about; of course they haven't done anything yet, waiting on the weather to come in."

Road crews and utility companies were fortunate Tuesday as mostly rain fell in Sharp, Fulton and Randolph counties. The Hardy Public Works Department said the only threat remaining is the refreezing of roads and bridges Tuesday night.

"We're going to put a little bit of salt on the bridge, keep the icy conditions down tonight, that's basically all we can do," said Bill Gilbreath. "We got everything, all our equipment fueled up, got our salt spreader prepared, basically that's it."

Allen Rogers, who is an employee at Price Chopper, said most people were purchasing items just in case of bad weather.
