By Brandi Hodges - bio | email

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) –Friday February, 4th is National Wear Red Day that is held on the first Friday of every February to bring attention to the fight against heart disease.  Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States.

From high school students to businesses people, folks are showing their support for the fight against heart disease.  Over the week students at Nettleton High School have gathered more than $200 in cash and change to donate to the Cardiology Associates Foundation to help continue efforts to educate people about heart disease.  Volunteers with the organization spent the morning traveling to different businesses providing a free screening.

"We're traveling around to businesses in the area taking blood pressures and increasing the awareness of heart disease in women," said Cardiology Associates Foundation volunteer Laura Bettis

80% of women between 40 and 60 years old have at least one risk factor for heart disease!
