Staying busy on a snow day

OAK GROVE, AR (KAIT) - "You get to know your kids all over again on a snow day and it really can be a good thing," said mother of four, LaVonda Evans.

This is snow day number four for the kids this winter. Her kids are in the Paragould School District.

"A good time for me to sleep in," said one of the children.

"How long is it going to take before they get bored?", asked Evans.

It's time for mom to get creative.

"We've made banana nut bread, we've made cinnamon bread, snow cream of course," said LaVonda Evans.

She says they are finding anything to keep these kiddo's occupied all day, from watching movies to looking at old pictures, and scrap booking.

Her kids range in age from 4 to 12 so the challenge she says is keeping them all entertained all day.

"We may have to break out the paint and some poster board and see if we can't come up with a masterpiece," said Evans.

She says she tries to avoid any meltdowns during the day.

"It could be something as simple as 'he took my hot wheels' to 'she won't let me play on the computer.' It varies, but so far no bloodshed," said Evans.

In fact, LaVonda says she looks at snow days as a chance to enjoy her kids company without the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

"I forgot what school was like whenever I was in elementary school and junior high so for them it's a way for them to take me back as well," said Evans.

LaVonda does admit she doesn't tackle the snow days alone.

"I've got my second pot going so yeah, a little more coffee," said Evans.
