FAYETTEVILLE (NWAOnline.com) - Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn gave Razorbacks fans a glimpse into some future schedules for the team Monday at the first Swatter's Club meeting of 2011.
The Razorbacks will play weekend nonconference series against Villanova and Valparaiso in 2012, with midweek series against Missouri, BYU, Northwestern State, Gonzaga and Nevada, and midweek games against Oral Roberts and Stephen F. Austin.
All of those games are scheduled to be played at Baum Stadium, with a game against Louisiana Tech tentatively scheduled to be played at Dickey-Stephens Ballpark in North Little Rock.
"We might set a record for games played at Baum Stadium that season," Van Horn said. "That's before you even take into account the SEC games."
In addition, Arkansas will play three nonconference games next season in the Houston Classic at Minutemaid Park. Other participants in that tournament include former Southwest Conference foes Texas, Rice, Texas Tech and Houston.
"I have a feeling we'll get matched with Texas and Rice," Van Horn said of the former longtime baseball rivals. "We'll have to wait and see about the other game."
Arkansas will return the midweek trip to Missouri, likely in 2013, Van Horn said. The Razorbacks are also scheduled to play in a tournament hosted by Arizona State that year in Surprise, Ariz.
"The way scheduling works is you have to plan two or three years in advance, or you'll get left in the dust," Van Horn said. "We've got some good, hard nonconference schedules coming up that should prepare us for what we'll see in the SEC."
