Accused recruiter shooter hearing set for Tuesday

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - A judge has set a hearing on the mental state of a man charged with killing a soldier at a Little Rock military recruiting center in a self-proclaimed act of revenge for Muslims who were killed by Americans.

Abdulhakim Muhammad is charged with capital murder for the killing of Pvt. William Long in June 2009. The Arkansas Democrat-gazette reports that a judge has reset a weather-delayed hearing for Tuesday, at which lawyers will argue about Muhammad's mental state.

Defense lawyers want Muhammad's Feb. 23 trial date pushed back six months so Muhammad can get a more thorough mental examination, though he's twice been found sane by the State Hospital.

Muhammad's lawyers also want more time to probe their client's background, including his time spent in Yemen.
