MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) – The Baxter County Sheriff's office is seeking the public's help in finding a missing sex offender.

Steven Lynn Coney of Gassville was released from the Arkansas Department of Corrections on January 26.

By law, the 38-year-old convicted sex offender was required to register with the sheriff's office no later than February 5.  When he did not, sheriff's deputies went looking for him.

According to Sheriff John Montgomery, Coney told authorities he would be residing at 312 Gassville Garden Loop.  When they went to check the residence Friday, February 11, he was not there.  Others who lived there said they had not seen or heard from Coney since his release from prison.

Coney was convicted of sexual abuse in the first degree in 2000.  He was convicted five years later for failing to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to prison.

If you have any information that could help deputies find him, contact the Baxter County Sheriff's Office at 870-425-7000.
