Southeast Missouri to drop some degree programs

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Southeast Missouri State University is eliminating bachelor of arts degrees in Spanish, French and German.

The university isn't doing away with the foreign languages. Instead, the programs will be rolled into a bachelor of arts in global cultures and languages. The majors are expected to be phased
out so students currently enrolled in the degree programs can graduate.

The cuts are part of an extensive, statewide degree program review aimed at taking out low-producing degree programs. Altogether, Missouri's colleges and universities will drop 119
programs, or 20 percent of the degree programs identified for review.

The Southeast Missourian reports that at Southeast Missouri State, 29 degree programs were reviewed. Of those, four will be cut: administration systems management, French, Spanish and German.
