WKU dismisses senior forward Cliff Dixon

BOWLING GREEN. KY (Bowling Green Daily News) - Western Kentucky will now be down to nine scholarship bodies for the remainder of the season, as the school has dismissed Cliff Dixon from its men's basketball program.

A statement from coach Ken McDonald:

"Senior forward Cliff Dixon has been dismissed from the WKU men's basketball
team for a violation of team rules. This is an unfortunate situation, but it
is best for our basketball program. Cliff will still be able to attend
classes and progress toward his degree. This is an internal matter, and we
wish him well."

Dixon made waves in WKU's recent home win over North Texas on Saturday by not returning to the team bench after halftime. Dixon did not play a minute in the first half.

After the break, Dixon watched a portion of the second half wearing street clothes in the E.A. Diddle Arena stands.

Dixon is the second player from WKU's roster to be removed from the team, as junior guard Ken Brown was dismissed earlier this season due to academic violations.

Freshman point guard Brandon Peters was also declared ineligible due to grades early in January.

Beginning with the first game of the 2008-09 season, 10 players have left the program before exhausting their eligibility during Ken McDonald's three-year tenure as WKU's men's basketball coach.

Those players are: Terrence Boyd, David Laury, William Green, Jordan Swing, Jameson Tipping, Dejan Cvoro, D.J. Magley, Uros Komadinic, Ken Brown and Cliff Dixon.
