Nettleton teacher wins Advocate for Education Award

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A teacher at Nettleton Elementary has been awarded the Advocate for Education Award by other teachers.

Second grade teacher, Phyllis Wofford, received the award from the Arkansas Teachers for National Board Certification.

In the past, this award has been given to state lawmakers, those with the State Board of Education and college professors, but never to a classroom teacher.

Wofford was the founding president of the organization about ten years ago, and says she never dreamed she would be honored by them.

"It's always extra special when your peers give you an award and so it means a lot to me," Wofford said.

There are 1,689 teachers who are National Board Certified in Arkansas.
