Fourth victim dies in fatal Jonesboro fire

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A fourth victim has died as a result of the injuries he suffered in a fatal fire last Tuesday morning in Jonesboro.

According to the Jonesboro Fire Department, 2-year-old Bryont Ruff died Friday night at a hospital in Memphis from the injuries he suffered in the fire.

The fire killed three other people, Tierra Rayford, and 4-year-old Byron Ruff Junior and his 5-year-old sister Zyonna Ruff. 

The Jonesboro Fire Marshal's Office told Region 8 News Thursday night that a stove left on in the kitchen ignited some wooden cabinets and then spread throughout the house.

Fire officials say Rayford was found in the living room burned beyond recognition, and the three children were found in a bathroom together. "We feel that they were probably all in the back bedroom and that was the first immediate room out of that bedroom," said Jason Wills with the Fire Marshal's Office.

The fire at 2209 Central Street was called into the Jonesboro Fire Department at 5:43 in the morning on Tuesday February 15th. The fire department said they arrived on scene at 5:56am, but didn't know how long the fire had been going.  The fire marshal's office said there were no signs of smoke detectors in the duplex.

This is the first fatal fire in Jonesboro since 2008.
