ASU's Ethan Sandusky named SBC Field Athlete of the Week

JONESBORO, Ark. (2/15/11) — The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday that Arkansas State pole vaulter Ethan Sandusky has been named the SBC Field Athlete of the Week for his performance last weekend at the Iowa State Classic.

Sandusky, a freshman from Bentonville. Ark., posted a new personal-best in the men's pole vault at the ISU Classic, clearing 16-8.75 to finish fifth in the event.  Sandusky's height was the highest cleared by any athlete in the Sun Belt this season, breaking his previous high by two inches.

"Ethan had an outstanding meet this past weekend," said ASU head coach Lon Badeaux.   "He continues to get better from week to week."

Tuesday's award marks the second time this season that Sandusky has been named athlete of the week by the conference.  He was also named SBC Field Athlete of the Week Jan. 26 following his winning performance at the ASU Invitational.

Sandusky and the Red Wolves will return to action Feb. 27-28 when they host the SBC Indoor Championships at the ASU Convocation Center.
