FEBRUARYS TEACHER OF THE MONTH TEACHES 7TH GRADE WORLD HISTORY AT BATESVILLE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.

LOUANNE GEORGE HAS BEEN TEACHING FOR 33 YEARS.

I THINK SHE WOULD MAKE A GREAT GAME SHOW HOST.

STUDENTS IN BATESVILLE ARE TAUGHT IN BLOCK PERIODS OF AN HOUR AND A HALF. THAT GAVE THIS CLASS TIME FOR A GAME ON THE SMART BOARD AND ANOTHER REVIEW GAME ON ROMAN HISTORY.

IT'S FUN WITH A PURPOSE...RIGHT?

<I TRY AND FIND SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN RELATE TO. THEN WE TRY AND TRACE THINGS AS TO WHY WERE DOING IT THE WAY WE'RE DOING IT.>

I ASKED MS. GEORGE THIS QUESTION AS A STUDENT. "THE THING I LIKE MOST ABOUT HER CLASS IS...?"

{***SOT FULL***}

<Everything is a learning activity in that classroom, we're always learning, we're never dull.>

AND LIKE I SAID, ALL THE GAMES AND FUN WERE FACTS ABOUT ROMAN HISTORY AS THEY PREPARE FOR A TEST.

WITH NEARLY 600 KIDS IN THE JUNIOR HIGH, CLASSES ARE LARGE AND LONG. BUT, GEORGE SAYS SHE WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY.

<I would not want to go back. I would not want to give up the hour and a half.>

33 years of teaching behind her and who knows how many still ahead?

[TAKE SOT]

{***SOT FULL***}

<I've already decided that the day I do not enjoy it I will quit. But as long as I'm enjoying it I'm gonna keep doing it. I was born to teach.>

With February's, Teacher of the Month, Louanne George. Keith Boles, Region 8 News.

SHE'S BEEN TEACHING FOR 33 YEARS BUT STILL HAS THE ENERGY AND CREATIVITY TO KEEP IT FRESH AND NEW EVERY DAY FOR HER STUDENTS.

I love teaching, I enjoy teaching. It's kind of like an outlet. Anything happen in the world I'm going to take it to the classroom and teach it. They're there ready to go I'm excited.>

GEORGE SAYS SHE ENJOYS 7TH GRADE BECAUSE HER STUDENTS CHANGE BEFORE HER EYES.

I enjoy watching them grow because 1 day they are little bitty kids and it's "Oh Mom." and then the next day they are total adults and I like to watch them change.

BATESVILLE SCHOOLS TEACH IN BLOCKS OF ONE AND A HALF HOURS WHICH MS. GEORGE SAYS GIVE LOTS OF TIME TO GET A LOT OF INFORMATION OUT TO THE KIDS.

GEORGE SAYS IF THE STUDENTS ARE READY TO LEARN, SHE'S READY TO TEACH.

MS. GEORGE REALLY DOES LIKE HER 7TH GRADERS, IN FACT SHE LIKES THEM BETTER AS 8TH GRADERS.
