JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Attorneys for one of the three men convicted in the West Memphis 3 murders has pushed for more DNA tests. After more than fifteen years of time in prison, this past November the three men convicted won new hearings.

Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley were convicted in the murders of 3 eight-year-old cub scouts back in 1993. The victims were found beaten, nude, and hog-tied in West Memphis. Attorneys for one of the men now want to test more DNA evidence for the upcoming hearing. DNA evidence which would include the Arkansas boys' clothes and shoes, hair collected from the crime scene, and the sheets that transported the bodies of the victims.

People, some of which wanting to remain anonymous, had their own opinions on the matter.

"It could be a powerful tool at their defense but at the same time, it could prove their guilt. It's something we need to rely on a lot heavier," says one man who chooses to remain anonymous.

It could help in the case because they actually could be innocent. I have a cousin and he was friends with one of the men convicted. He said he was a disturbed kid, but he wasn't somebody that could do something like that," says citizen Larry Keller.

According to the Associated Press, Echols has been on death row since 1994, while Baldwin and Misskelley are serving life sentences.
