CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) - Loud music sparked a complaint at the Caruthersville Police Department on Friday, and officers said when they went speak with the homeowner, they were met with a resistant crowd.

According to police, officers arrived at a home on 907 Belle St. to tell the 36-year-old Luther Robinson of Caruthersville to either turn down his music or end the party. Instead of complying with officers, Robinson became irate and wouldn't cooperate, said police.

Officers said they tried to place Robinson under arrest, but Robinson tried to resist arrest and pushed one officer away while a large crowd gathered around them.

Caruthersville Police said they had to disperse the irate crowd with a chemical agent, and subdued one crowd member with an X26 Taser who was later identified as Artent Covington, 41, also of Caruthersville.

Robinson and Covington were both taken to the Pemiscot County Justice Center for willfully opposing a police officer in proper discharge of his duties and resisting arrest. Robinson was also charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

At the time of the report, Robinson was being held in lieu of $1,588.50 cash only bond, and Covington was being held in lieu of $1,059 cash only bond.

Caruthersville Police thanked Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, Hayti Police Department and Missouri Highway Patrol for their help during the incident.
