ASU Women’s Golf improves standing at Kiawah

The Arkansas State women's golf team shot a 306 Monday at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, cutting 11 strokes off its first-round score to climb from 21st to 17th place among 33 teams during the tournament's second day of competition.

The Red Wolves shot a first-round 317 on Sunday and completed the first two rounds with a combined 623. Four of A-State's five competing golfers improved on their first-round score Monday, while three moved up in the standings.

A-State is led by freshman Courtney Manning, who remains tied for 24th place with a 151 (75-76). Anna Carling is only one stroke behind Manning after shooting a 74 Monday to finish the first two rounds tied for 30th place. Jennifer Welch is tied for 74th place with a combined 158 (81-77), while Aly Seng is tied for 109th (83-79) and Jennifer Loiacano tied for 143rd (169).

The University of Miami leads the field with a 593, while Campbell University is second with a 600 and Florida International third with a 601.

The tournament's third and final round will be played Tuesday.
