Career fair gives students taste of real world

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - Local students got a taste of the real world Tuesday at the Second Annual Walnut Ridge Career Fair.

Students in grades 7-12 from Walnut Ridge and juniors and seniors from Black Rock school districts visited with businesses, colleges, universities and military branches. Sixteen different career clusters were on hand for students to talk to.

The event, sponsored by the career and technical education teachers, lets students take a break from their studies to think about the skills they'll need for a real career.

"There are all kinds of opportunities out there and we want them to have a chance to explore that," Counselor, Debbie Findley, said.

Students already know how crucial it is to explore those options.

"It helped me figure out where I'm going to go to college and that's the first step," student, Taylor Hicks, said.

There were around 40 booths at today's event, and because of this year and last year's success, event coordinators plan to hold the event again next year.
