AR congressman spoke with farmers Tuesday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - One Arkansas congressman spent Tuesday morning back in town for a chance to speak with local farmers.

The Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce sponsored their annual Agri-Business Breakfast.

Congressman Rick Crawford was the keynote speaker.

Among the topics he discussed were the state of farming both on the national and local level, plus the efforts to get a farm bill passed in Congress.

"Right now what we have, we're operating under the '08 farm bill. You won't hear a whole lot of noise about the farm bill probably this year because it doesn't come up for re-authorization until '12," Crawford said. "What we're looking at is historic commodity prices, high prices, that's a good thing. But you also have to take that on balance with the regulatory costs and just the cost of producing a crop," he said.

Crawford also talked about future trade agreements that could affect local farmers and answered questions from the audience.
