Tempers flew at NEA Fair annex meeting Tuesday night

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The NEA Fair Board met with dozens of people opposed to a proposed move of the NEA Fair Grounds Tuesday night.

The meeting, held at the Jonesboro Baptist Church, gave citizens an opportunity to voice their concerns as well as hear more from the NEA Fair Association's proposed move.

Many residents said they're concerned noise and crime will go up, but fair officials say they don't need to worry.

"We're trying to be good neighbors. We feel like once we get there they'll be satisfied with it. I know they have the fear of the unknown but, hopefully, the things we're doing here tonight will help that," Vice President of the NEA Fair Association, Michael Cureton, said.

"Yeah, we're going to have to put up with the fair but, you know, my house is insulated and I don't never hear anything anyway. You know, I wouldn't have to walk very far to the fair," resident, Danny Luther, said.

To help reduce noise and increase crowd control, fair officials say they plan to build an eight-foot concrete wall around much of the fairground.

Region 8 News will continue to track this story and let you know what happens next.
