NEWPORT, AR (Newport Independent) — Greenwood defensive coordinator Jeromy Poole will be the next head football coach at Newport High School.
The Russell native and Bald Knob High School graduate will now return to this part of the state to face his alma matter each year.
Poole has been at Greenwood since 2006, and the Bulldogs have won three state titles during that time. They defeated Camden-Fairview in last year's state finals by a final score of 36-35.
His former team was also victorious against longtime Newport rival Batesville in the 2010 state semi-finals. The Bulldogs outscored the Pioneers 38-13.
Other coaching stops for Poole include two years at conference foe Clinton and three years at Fordyce.
In addition to serving as Bulldog defensive coordinator, Poole also coaches linebackers and is the strength and conditioning coach for the team.
Poole holds a degree from the University of Central of Arkansas and began teaching in 2001. The young coach and his wife, Traci, have a son named Tyson.
