CALICO ROCK, Ark. -- Officials say a 16-year-old student stopped a Calico Rock school bus today after the driver apparently blacked out.

Superintendent Jerry Skidmore would not release the name of the student, but says the young man should be commended for his actions.

Skidmore says five of the dozen students on the bus were treated for bruises and other minor injuries.

The incident occurred this morning south of Calico Rock near the Stone-Izard county line. It was unclear whey the driver, 68-year-old Elzora Lucy, blacked out.

According to a police report, the bus ran off the highway, went through a fence and stopped in a field.
