DUMAS, Ark. --A prosecutor says an arrest warrant has been issued for a former jailer in Dumas, who is accused of helping an inmate escape.
Forty-two-year-old Carl Lowe escaped from the jail July ninth and has since been caught in Wisconsin. Prosecutor Thomas Deen said says Tracy Pickett is wanted on a charge of permitting escape, a class C- felony. Deen said state police concluded Pickett allowed Lowe to escape through a door and onto the roof of the jail.
From there, Lowe shimmied down an extension cord, Deen said. The escape led to a three-week hunt for Lowe, who had been convicted of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, theft and being a felon in possession of a firearm in June.
He was sentenced to life plus 110 years, and was awaiting transfer to a state prison at the time he got loose. Lowe was caught when a suspect in an auto theft led Milwaukee police to Lowe.
Deen said that Pickett's attorney was negotiating Pickett's surrender.
