JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A significant severe weather outbreak is expected in the Mid South Monday morning. There is the potential for widespread damaging winds and a few strong tornadoes.
The Storm Prediction Center has Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri in a Moderate Risk for severe weather during this time period. A low pressure system along with a cold front will move into the area early Monday morning creating an unstable atmosphere and help the development for strong thunderstorms.
The brunt of the system will likely arrive in the area around 5am. These strong storms will likely develop ahead of grouped thunderstorms in a squall line. These storms could also produce large hail, heavy downpours, and localized flooding.
The Region 8 Storm Team is watching the latest information on the weather system. Weather watches will likely be issued later Monday morning. Stay with KAIT TV, www.kait8.com, or www.region8togo.com on your cell phone for the latest information. If you have a weather radio, now is the time to make sure it is working properly. It is also important to know where you would seek shelter if severe weather occurs in your area.
